Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has terminated approximately 20 employees for sharing confidential company information externally, with additional dismissals expected to follow.
According to Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold, the company maintains strict policies against leaking internal information. "We tell employees when they join the company, and we offer periodic reminders, that it is against our policies to leak internal information, no matter the intent," Arnold stated.
The terminations came after an internal investigation identified employees who had shared sensitive company details outside the organization. The company has ramped up its efforts to identify and address information leaks, particularly following recent reports about internal meetings.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed concerns about information leaks during company meetings. In response, Meta has implemented stricter controls around internal communications, including limiting the visibility of Q&A sessions and removing the ability to post classified questions or comments.
While specific details about the leaked information remain undisclosed, the company's leadership has emphasized their commitment to protecting confidential data. "We take this seriously, and will continue to take action when we identify leaks," Arnold confirmed.
The dismissals reflect Meta's growing focus on internal security and confidentiality as the company navigates various challenges, including discussions about workplace policies, corporate culture, and strategic initiatives.
